Hate crime

Hate crime is any offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by an offender's hatred or dislike of someone because they are seen to be different because of their race, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.

Hate crime offences include:

• physical attacks
• offensive graffiti
• abusive or obscene phone calls, text messages or emails
• verbal abuse
• isolation or shunning

What to do if you think you're a victim of hate crime

You should always let someone know if you think you're being a victim of hate crime.

• Tell a teacher or other member of staff at your school/college
• Report the incident(s) to your school PCSO or School Liaison Officer
• How about using the Avon and Somerset police website to report the incident?
