Domestic abuse
No relationship is perfect. We all argue and perhaps say things we don't necessarily mean to those closest to us, but there is a distinct difference between a disagreement and abusive behaviour.
Domestic abuse is any incident of threatening behaviour; this includes:
FACT - 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will be a victim of domestic abuse at some point in their lives.
FACT - 2 women a week and 30 men per year are murdered as a result of domestic abuse.
FACT - 1 in 9 children live with domestic abuse.
What can you do if you need help?
What if you think a friend needs help?
It is probably really difficult for your friend to talk about what is happening at home so try and be as supportive as you can. Listen to them but don't judge them. Try and offer them help, perhaps suggest that you go with them to speak to a trusted adult, try and look at advice websites, help lines and support groups together. There is a selection of these listed below.
