Tips
- Eat something before you drink, this will slow down how quickly your body absorbs alcohol.
- Keep your body re-hydrated by drinking soft drinks.
- Don't let your friends pressure you into drinking more than you're comfortable with or to have drinks you're not used to.
- Don't give someone a double when they have asked for a single. It may be funny at the time but your friend may not cope with large amounts of alcohol.
- Try using more mixers like cola, tonic or soda to lessen the effects.
- Don't leave your drink unattended; take it with you wherever you go or leave it with someone you can trust.
- Make an agreement with your friends to look after each other.
- If you do feel strange and unusually drunk get a friend to take you home immediately. Likewise if a friend approaches you feeling odd, make sure they get home safely.
- The effects of too much alcohol or use of drink spiking drugs can necessitate medical treatment. If you are worried about yourself or someone else, call an ambulance or get them to hospital.
- Think about how you're going to get home and who with. Don't walk home alone or with someone you don't know or trust.
- Do not let someone who is vulnerable go off alone. This includes in taxis or with a stranger.
