Drink spiking

'Drink spiking' refers to slipping some sort of drug or mind altering substance (including alcohol) into someone's drink without them knowing. The misuse of these substances can not only induce unconsciousness, spasms, disorientation and nausea but they can also be fatal.

Alcohol is the easiest 'drink spiking' drug to get hold of and unsurprisingly is the most common substance used. Other substances you may have heard of include GHB (Gammahydroxybutrate), benzodiazepines, Ketamine and Rohypnol.

Consuming too much alcohol can make you just as vulnerable you could lose control physically and emotionally and suffer memory loss, both in the short and long term.

FACT - It's not only women who report having their drink spiked – almost 11% of victims are reported to be male.
